Dartmoor and Bronze Age Man
06 July 2010
The High Moorland Visitor Centre in Princetown just a 20 minute drive from Holne Chase, is running an exhibition of Bronze Age artefacts from now until 29 th September.
Dartmoor is often better known for orienteering and pony trekking but there is a wealth of history to be found here. Many relics have been unearthed on the Moor and give us clues to the regions earliest inhabitants and their way of life.
The exhibition is displaying tools, weapons, jewellery and a replica of the Hameldon dagger which is reportedly one of the most important finds in the region dating back to Bronze Age. Private collections as well as contributions from the Royal Albert Memorial Museum are on display also.
So if you’re visiting Holne Chase for a break or thinking of a day trip to Dartmoor why not do something a little bit different and take a look at how our ancestors first settled in the area. The exhibition will give you the opportunity to learn about settlements, farming and ceremonial places so that when you are out and about travelling Dartmoor you may be able to recognise signs of early settlement.
