Fun Filled Festivals, Fetes & Fairs

At this time of year, when the sun is hopefully shining more frequently, many of South Devon’s towns & villages hold at least one festival, fete or fair. This offers you, whilst staying at one of our charming cottages, the perfect chance to explore the local area & see what Dartmoor has to offer.

By visiting one of the many festivals you will not only have a great time but you’ll also be helping to support the local communities which make up this great part of the county.

We’ve put together the below list to help you decide which one to visit.

Teignmouth Folk Festival

Teignmouth is one of Devon's oldest seaside resorts and is located below the Haldon Hills and on the estuary of the River Teign. Between the 19th & 21st June, Teignmouth will host their 17th Annual Folk Festival. This hugely popular event always attracts large crowds due to its wide variety of exciting entertainment.

There will be concerts and performances, workshops, dance acts and even a 'meet and greet' with some of the artists. This year there is a lot of buzz about the musical trio The Young’ Uns, whose sublime a cappella harmonies always create a foot tapping frenzy.

The main concert venue is Teignmouth United Reform Church in Dawlish Street, with free entertainment taking place in various venues across Teignmouth. One of the best things about Teignmouth is that the centre of town is flat, making it perfect for wandering along the promenade so there is no need to worry about venue hopping.

Big Beach Picnic

This summer the National Trust is inviting everyone to head to the coast & celebrate British Beaches. The nearest Big Beach Picnic will be held at Greenaway House (the beloved holiday home of the famous and much-loved author Agatha Christie and her family) where the gardens overlook the sparkling Dart Estuary.

As part of the 50 Things to do before you’re 11 ¾ campaign, there will be plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained, so all you need to do is bring your sandwiches and shades!

This really is a great day out for all the family & you will get to enjoy the sunning south Devon coastline.

Teignmouth Flower Festival

This year the flower festival’s theme is Nursery Rhymes. The festival will delight all your senses with over 40 displays as well as a variety of musical performances playing in the background.

Typical of our festivals, refreshments will include tea, scones & selection of homemade cakes.  If you visit between Wednesday 24th & Saturday 27th June then you will also grab some lunch.

Make sure you visit the gift stall, which will include beautifully arranged flower, so that you can share your holiday with friends & family.

Let’s Rock Exeter

Lets Rock Festival has been running for the past 7 years at a variety of venues across the UK. This year Let’s Rock will be holding their first ever event in Exeter, in the magnificent grounds of Powderham Castle. There is a fabulous line-up of artists which will bring you the very best of the 80s.

These events are aimed at the whole family, so there will be lots to keep the children entertained including circus workshops, face painting and a funfair.
There will be a multitude of stalls offering food from around the world.

After a day out that will leave you tired but happy, you can return to the comfort of one our luxury self-catering holiday cottages where one of Harriet’s scrumptious homemade meals could be waiting for you!
