South Devon: The Creative Coast

With beautiful landscapes & stunning coastlines, it’s hard not to be inspired when visiting South Devon.

Whether you want to gaze at an artist’s interpretations of the sumptuous countryside surroundings at an exhibition or gallery opening, watch local craftsman at work or bring out your creative side by joining in, there are a number of events to go to whilst staying at our self-catering holiday cottages.

Exhibition: Michael Honnor - Painter Printmaker
Devon Guild of Craftsman
Bovey Tracy
Saturday 19th September - Sunday 1st November

The event is a partially retrospective exhibition showing the breadth of Michael Honnor’s work across some 50 years of practice.

For Michael, painting comes first & growing up on the edge of Dartmoor has instilled in him an instinctive connection with the wilderness & wildness of Britain & this is clearly reflected in his work.

For the same length of time that he has been exhibiting his painting - some 25 years - Michael has been a Member of Devon Guild of Craftsmen as a printmaker & refers to printmaking as the partner to the painting.

This exhibition is an opportunity to see Michael’s painting & printmaking alongside one another, to explore the synergy of the techniques & to see how one informs the other.

On the first night of the exhibition there will be an opportunity to “meet the maker” & will be happy to talk & answer any questions about his work.

Devon Open Studios
Woodball
Saturday 5th - Sunday 20th September

Devon Open Studios is a free annual art event & is the largest showcase for artists in the county. For 16 days hundreds of artists will open their doors in more than 140 locations to showcase their exquisite pieces.

The event provides a rare & exciting opportunity to interact with artists in their own individual creative spaces. In addition to being able to buy art direct from the creator, many demonstrate, give talks & even give you a chance to create your own masterpiece.

Get engaged, inspired, &, on occasion, challenged by the art.

What more could you wish on a holiday than unearthing a hidden gem & take home a little piece of Devon in the form of a painting, sculpture or a piece of elegant ceramic
